Because part of the mission of AmandaBeth Online is to celebrate the past and reflect on the fashions of yesterday, I thought it would be appropriate to showcase some out-of-this-world gorgeous gowns from an upcoming historical movie - The Young Victoria. The film stars Emily Blunt and covers the early years of the famed monarch's reign, including the beautiful relationship she and her husband Prince Albert shared. The UK release was back in March but I can find no word of a US date (does anyone know?). I really hope it does come over here, as it looks like an absolutely scrumptious costume movie and the story seems to be well executed and very sweet.
As most of you know, Alexandria Victoria ascended to the throne in 1837 at the tender age of 18 and began the longest reign of any British monarch in history. This pivotal time period was eventually named for her (the Victorian Era) and saw enormous and important changes in nearly every area of society.
One thing I love of period dramas is how they recreate beautiful and accurate ensembles for the screen, bringing "what they really wore" to life for all of us who live in the 21st century. How can we help but be inspired by such gorgeous creations as these? They certainly tempt the mind to wish that one really is a princess.
I am so in love with the colors, fabric textures and trims in these photos. I just adore all the little touches on the yellow gown (and check out her hair!) but I think the dress in third photo is my personal favorite. The light, "minty" color with a subtle stripe...and that sweet edging of lace! Yep, this would be my top choice for that special night at the opera. What do you think?

Just to give you all something to look forward to, next week I will be focusing on one of the most iconic fashionistas of our era - BARBIE. I'll be posting on both Tuesday and Thursday, talking a bit about this ageless young lady and attempting to cover the good, the bad and the ugly. Be sure to come with lots of thoughts to share! I'll see you then! :)
