Excerpt from The Plaid Dress by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Strong sun, that bleach
The curtains of my room, can you not render
Colourless this dress I wear?—
This violent plaid
Of purple angers and red shames; the yellow stripe
Of thin but valid treacheries; the flashy green of kind deeds done
Through indolence high judgments given here in haste;
The recurring checker of the serious breach of taste?
I will admit that, once upon a time, I thought that all plaids (excepting authentic Scottish tartans, for historical dress) were, as she says above, a "serious breach of taste." But the pattern has grown on me, as long as it's not too garish, and makes me think of old-fashioned, home-spun goodness. It's perfect for summer.

What I'm Wearing:
- Plaid Dress by American Eagle Outfitters - hand-me-down
- Lace Bolero by dressbarn - Dress Barn
- Bag by Nine West - hand-me-down
- Sandals by STEVE MADDEN - yard sale
- Necklace and Earrings by KATHY SNYDER
- Mood Ring - Cape Cod gift shop
I think it's kind of funny that my mood ring decided to match my dress in this photo shoot. So, what mood does that mean I was in? Any guesses, without cheating by looking it up online?
How does plaid make you feel? And does your mood ring reflect it??? (Does anyone have a mood ring of their own, and how much stock do you really put in the way the colors change? ;)
Defying the ring, one mood at a time,
Amanda
