What's in your bag?

Posted on 11:46 by mark khandry
For a while I've been following the various blog challenges over at IFB (Independent Fashion Bloggers) and wanting to participate. Unfortunately, my sporadic schedule usually thwarts my good intentions. But this week's challenge just fits perfectly into the time I've got on hand.

For those who have long wondered what secrets superwoman Amanda Flynn carries around in her handbag/purse/whatever... all is about to be revealed. ;)

I'm kind of paranoid about finding myself in a situation for which I am unprepared, so I usually try to have everything I can think I'd possibly need in my bag. If I were going anywhere important there would also be bobby pins, elastics, safety pins and makeup in this jumble... but here's the essentials.
  1. Point and shoot camera. I bought this for my London trip and it has served me well. My family has a really nice camera that I shoot my fashion photos with, but this is perfect for when I'm on-the-go. I find that I always want my camera when I bring to pack it, so I try to keep it in my bag at all times.

  2. iPod nano in a cheap and ugly $1 case that is super protective. ;) I like to plug this in to the car stereo and turn up the volume. The current soundtrack of my life is a whole lot of big band swing.

  3. Cell phone. I'm not a big phone call or texting person, but I like the security of having this with me at all times.

  4. CPR certification, and a booklet that walks you through the steps. Because you never know...

  5. Keys. With my Stop and Shop card, gym pass and a mini flashlight.

  6. Sunglasses. The paparazzi is out there!

  7. Hand mirror. For makeup and discreetly checking teeth after eating anything with spices or spinach. ;)

  8. Floss. For said teeth. There's nothing worse than being caught without it. (Although hair can be a decent substitute. Really.)

  9. Lip balm. Obviously.

  10. Credit cards, license, et cetera. I picked up this little case at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and ever since it's been perfect for carrying and organizing any cards I need.

  11. Notebook and a pen. I'm a writer, and I've always got to be prepared. This is for good ideas, notes, to do lists, or whatever comes to mind. Essential.

  12. A super cool gadget that hooks onto the edge of a table and holds your purse up off the ground. Although I must confess that my purse usually ends up on the ground, anyway.

  13. Organic lip tint. I've become super paranoid about what I put on and into my mouth (especially after all the statistics about lead and lipstick), and this handy little thing has both a pale sparkle and a deeper red. I've never really been a lipstick person, but this is nice when I want a little something extra.

  14. Tissues! Always.

  15. Business cards I won through Uprinting and designed myself.

  16. A ticket stub from The Help, which I saw yesterday and loved. The book was good, too, but harder to recommend. I think the movie is perfect for mother/(older)daughter dates. It was hysterically funny and so emotional and inspiring. Fabulous.

  17. Altoids. Because they are my favorite thing for when I'm nervous (like right before a show), or an upset stomach (also often before a show), or just a breath freshener (anytime).

  18. Glee gum! Because it's organic, I like to chew it, and also the reasons listed above.

  19. Extra change and a few dollars. Because. :)

My bag, which I picked up at Dress Barn before I went to London, is my favorite. It slings across my body and leaves my hands free, and also has plenty of room and pockets to organize all the stuff I have inside. It's perfect for the craziness of everyday life.

So girls, will you tell me what's in your bag?? If you do a post on your blog, be sure to share the link in the comments! I want to see! :)
