So of course, somebody had to go and destroy another one of my favorite shooting locations. No, I didn't do it. The above is just my Norman Rockwell-esque take on what might have happened. ;)
This photo shoot was inspired by the 1970s-ish print of my skirt. The fabric was given to me with a bunch of other vintage prints and, after using half of it to cover a bench cushion for my basement, I decided to whip up a summer skirt with the rest. Massachusetts might be more north than south, but the summers still get super hot and the humidity is brutal. Breezy summer skirts (that don't wrinkle) are a must.
The skirt only took me one sitting, which is a record for a detail-obssessed perfectionist like me. :P I used Simplicity 4753 and love the fit and flow of it. I tacked a brown ribbon across the seamline to finish things off, and now I've got a new favorite piece in my wardrobe. Yay for super awesome 70s prints! ;)
The yoked top is 100% silk, picked up at a local upscale consignment boutique. It's got beads and sequins on the yoke and is one of my new favorites for summer. Sparkly pieces make me feel like I'm in a "Bollywood" musical, which isn't a bad thing at all. Jai Ho!
I layered the shirt over a simple tank and finished it off with my basic brown wedges, which I've had for about four years now and still love. A little bit of super glue goes a long way...
What I'm Wearing:
- Silk Crinkle Top by two star dog - thrifted for $8
- Black Tank by Faded Glory - on sale for $2 at Wal Mart
- Paisley Skirt - made by me
- Wedge Shoes by xhiliration - from Target
- Blue Ring - hand-me-down - Wooden Ring from Russia
In other news, I've got an About Me page up on the blog now! I've been working on adding things to the right-hand navigation for a while and I feel like this adds a lot. Hopefully it will give you a little taste of who I am and what I do. You can get to the page by clicking on the "About" text, my name or profile photo. Be sure to take a look at the other navigation links, including the fashion topics and archives, my inspirations, bookstore and more. I'd love to know what you think! :)
Stay cool and enjoy your summer!
