Secondhand Fashion Week - Day 7 - All Ruffled Up :)

Posted on 03:00 by mark khandry

First of all, let me just clarify that this is not what I am wearing for Easter Sunday. Yes, if I had to photograph my outfits a day in advance, I should have been brilliant and shot my Easter ensemble on Saturday... but I wasn't yet sure what I would be wearing. Also, I loved this new outfit too much to let it miss out on all the fun. :)

I have been hoping to do a re-fashion piece all week long. I had a dozen good intentions going into this week. But when I was flooded out of house and sewing room... they remained intentions. :P Today however, I cleared myself a space and sat down with a jean mini skirt that was passed on to me (like I would ever wear the thing! ;)... and added some ruffles and trim. (I would like to get a tutorial up here, but we'll have to see!)

I have been wanting a cute little summer skirt and was so excited that this one turned out how I was planning! The jean part is perfect - denim never looks dirty or wrinkled (it's so amazing! ;) and the ruffles add some fun and feminine flare. I am especially proud of the latter, since they were cut from an old faded fabric (also given to me)... and I used the fabric discoloration to make an interesting graduation of color. It was fun! :)

My top, necklace and shoes (probably the only used ones I own) in this ensemble are also all secondhand - so this was one cheap outfit. A grand total of $2 (for the shoes :). The earrings are making their second appearance this week... and are my faves from London.

What I'm Wearing:
  • Re-fashioned Skirt originally by Mossimo Supply Co.
  • Knit Shirt by GAP (secondhand)
  • Shoes by Mootsies Tootsies Collection (thrifted)
  • Jewelry - necklace (secondhand) - earrings from Greenwich Market, England
Remember - this is the last day of Secondhand Fashion Week! Be sure to post all of your looks by midnight tonight so that they can be entered in the Favorite Secondhand Fashionista contest! I will be selecting some finalists and posting them within a few days for you to vote for your favorite! (Don't forget that the giveaways are still open! Be sure to enter!)

Thank you all once again for contributing to a wonderful event. You have totally made my week. God bless you (and have a lovely Easter Sunday! :).

Secondhand Fashion Week - Day 6 - "Happy to be alive..."

Posted on 03:00 by mark khandry

Today was "sunny with a high of 75." At least, super close. :)

All I wanted to do was sit in the sun and soak it in all afternoon. Of course, there were duties to attend to. But I kept myself as on par with the weather by putting on a nice, summery outfit. And it ended up being a wonderful day, visiting with some dear family and friends.

It's funny that a couple of days ago I mentioned not being very into the Bohemian style, and today a few rather "boho" pieces snuck in once again. Uh oh... ;)

This wrap around skirt was passed on to me quite a few years ago and the print is definitely rather 70s inspired. I believe it was actually handmade as well, but I'm not sure by whom. I made the sleeveless top myself out of material that was also given to me. It's a favorite color of mine and I love the yoked neckline. The shawl/poncho is another secondhand piece (and also "boho"), but I must have removed the tag - I have no idea where it's from. So, my outfit has no great brand names today. ;)

The jewelry I made myself a few years back and the wedge shoes have long been favorites (any shoe that makes me nearly 6 feet tall is awesome :).

What I'm Wearing:
  • Wrap Skirt - secondhand (handmade)
  • Yoked Top - handmade by me (secondhand fabric)
  • Knit Shawl - secondhand
  • Shoes by Xhiliration from Target
I seem to have my hands on my hips in all these pictures. Do I look intimidating? ;)

Now it's your turn! Post your secondhand look on your blog and add the link below. (Please make sure the link goes directly to your URL for today's post and not just to your blog homepage.) Remember, made-over, re-fashioned and reconstructed pieces and DIY tutorials can also be posted!

Secondhand Fashion Week - Day 5 - An Everyday Look

Posted on 03:04 by mark khandry

Today I'm displaying some simple, everyday style... the sort of thing that you are most likely to see me in if you dropped in unexpected (unless I'm still in pajamas, writing ;). Jeans are my friend throughout almost the entire week - you just can't beat them for quick comfort and ease. They never need to be ironed - just grab them and go (so awesome :). These ones are not secondhand, but were picked up on sale at Target for $14.

Another everyday must for me is nice knit top. No stiff button-ups when I've got things to do and want to be comfy! I love this black long-sleeved shirt that was passed on to me recently. It's got a great fit and works well with almost anything. I also adore this pink-y/coral sleeveless hoodie. It's a great color and is perfect for layering... except that the zipper doesn't like to lie flat (which is probably why somebody else got rid of it :P).

My red shoes are making another appearance - they are such fun! - and I've got a new (old) necklace today! I bought it off of my brother... we're really not sure what it originally was (had a bunch of little chains attached to the centerpiece) but on a nice new chain it makes a great pendant necklace. I'm also wearing some of my favorite secondhand rings, all except for the ginourmous green one, which I picked up in London...

What I'm Wearing:
  • Top - George ME by Mark Eisen (secondhand)
  • Hoodie by Geoffrey Beene (secondhand)
  • Jeans by Mossimo from Target
  • Shoes by American Eagle from Payless
  • Jewelry all secondhand except for the hoop earrings (Claire's) and the green ring (Greenwich Market, England)

Now it's your turn! Post your secondhand look on your blog and add the link below. (Please make sure the link goes directly to your URL for today's post and not just to your blog homepage.) Remember, made-over, re-fashioned and reconstructed pieces and DIY tutorials can also be posted!

Secondhand Fashion Week - Day 4 - A Tiny Bit Bohemian

Posted on 05:40 by mark khandry

I have never been a huge fan of the whole Boho look. It's usually a little too "hippie" for my taste. Today's ensemble is pretty much as Bohemian as I will ever get (rather tame, I know) and I think it's "free spirited" appearance is mostly due to my rather wild hair. ;)

This top was given to me a few years back and I have loved it ever since. The details of the lace and buttons are so victorian (I should really make over some tee shirts like this!) and the whimsy factor is right up my alley. The skirt is bias cut in a bold and unique pattern. I'm always careful with bias cut pieces, as I hate things to look too slinky, but this piece is really fun and has nice sleek shape.

The sweater has been probably my most favorite for quite a few years. I am a huge fan of long, drapey, comfy, cozy sweaters and this one works just as great with a dress and heels as with jeans and a tee shirt. It has definitely served me well and is still holding up beautifully.

The red shoes were the end result of a long search last year and were only $10 from Payless. They are rather cheap and are starting to look a bit tired already, but the enjoyment factor I have got out of them is worth it. :)

What I'm Wearing:
  • Top by Style & co. (secondhand)
  • Skirt by Madison Studio (secondhand)
  • Sweater by Banana Republic (secondhand)
  • Shoes by American Eagle from Payless
  • Earrings from Greenwich, England

LIVE CHAT with AmandaBeth this Saturday evening!

Posted on 03:00 by mark khandry

I am so absolutely excited to be able to get a chance to chat with you all this Saturday evening (the 3rd) from approximately 7-8 pm EST! I have long been playing around with the idea of doing this and trying to find a good site on which we could all enjoy some great company. Now I've got a nice private chat room set up for us and am looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better!

I am hoping that we will all be able to share a little bit about ourselves and have a grand time talking about fashion, our ideas, inspirations and et cetera. If you've got any great thoughts for subjects we can discuss, leave them in the comments! I want this to be as interesting as possible and would love if all of us were able to learn some new things!

I will be posting the more details on Saturday (including a password so that you can get into the room), but for now, leave any feedback in the comments and take a moment to use the poll at the top of the right-hand sidebar to RSVP.

I'm looking forward to "seeing" you on Saturday! Cheers! :)
