Another side of me...

Posted on 19:28 by mark khandry

Some of you know me outside of the blog. You know it's not all about the fashion, and that my everyday look is pretty "bleh." You know that I get more satisfaction and fulfillment from writing books in my basement while wearing pajamas than hanging out with friends while wearing nice duds and skyscraper heels. And hopefully we've had an intelligent conversation or two.

And you might know about this YouTube channel. It's a constant and warring source of pride and embarrassment to me. Honestly, I've been a little hesitant to share it here on the blog.

The thing is, once you've seen our videos, you're onto me. I'm not the sophisticated fashionista that I would like to trick myself into thinking I am. I'm really kind of weird.

Feel free to check out our most recent video below (and look at our past videos if you want to see the really scary stuff), "like" The Flynntastics on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter. AND if you share our videos and page with your friends we are eternally grateful.

So there you have it. Another side of me.

I hope you're not turned off and that you'll stay tuned. We've got some fun projects lined up for the second half of this year. :) (And if you are turned off, ignore this post and please keep reading the fashiony content here at AmandaBeth. I appreciate you!)

Girlfriends

Posted on 18:50 by mark khandry

For there is no friend like a sister
In calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
To fetch one if one goes astray,
To lift one if one totters down,
To strengthen whilst one stands.

 ~ Christina Rosetti, Golbin Market

These girls are my sisters, my friends, my partners in crime. I love them. A lot.

It was funny how none of us coordinated our Sunday outfits, and yet nearly all of us ended up in maxi skirts or dresses. It was fun, even though the day ended up being brutally hot... and most of us ditched the long skirts for shorts at the cookout afterwards. ;)

What I'm Wearing:
  • Top by JESSICA SIMPSON - thrifted
  • Skirt by AMANDABETH - made-by-me (about 10 years ago...)
  • Shoes by STEVE MADDEN - yard sale
  • Sunglasses by NICOLE MILLER - J.C. Penney
  • Earrings - Walmart

I'd love to see the fashions of you and your friends and sisters! Feel free to share a link to your own photos (even if they weren't taken recently :).

Have a lovely, blessed week...

Carolina Herrera Spring 2014 Bridal

Posted on 07:36 by mark khandry

Spring is the the time of year that everyone seems to be talking about weddings... and looking at dresses, even if it's just for fun. I've been working on a gown for a friend from my church for the past month (along with 3 other women - it's a group effort!), so naturally there's been a lot of discussion of bridal designs.

I've seen photos from some really lovely collections this year (I may share a few more in future posts), and I just loved these looks from Carolina Hererra. They are so classic and elegant!

Mermaid style gowns, with simple details...

A few extra sparkles and flowers can't hurt...

Complex and unusual embroidery, or sophisticated simplicity...

Lace bodices, whether paired with a full or narrow skirt, are always timeless... Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton, anyone?

Which look is your favorite?

Sunny and Seventies

Posted on 10:13 by mark khandry

Sorry for the cheesy title, but once I put together the top, wide-legged jeans, sandals, and then did my hair, I was feeling kind of 1970s. My aunt even came up to me at church and said she used to wear her hair the same way when she was in high school. Oh, oh dear. :)

What I'm Wearing:
  • Top by FOREVER 21 - thrifted
  • Ruffled Camisole by ENERGIE - from Kohl's
  • Jeans by OLD NAVY - from Old Navy
  • Platform Sandals by STEVE MADDEN - yardsale
  • Necklace - made by a friend from a piece of home dec trim
  • Bracelet - made by another dear friend
  • Pearl Earrings - a gift from my grandmother

Do you ever randomly pull together an outfit and then realize you've got a look inspired by a past era, entirely by accident? It made me smile, especially since a 70s vibe is not usually what I'm going for...

But hey! Sometimes it's fun to do things differently. ;)
